Psychology Should Be About Behavior And Not About An Inner...

B.F. Skinner was a psychologist that seemed to go against what many other psychologists thought about personality. He did not believe in personality. In a way, Skinner has a point about personality not existing because we do change our behavior based on the environment we are in. (Olson Hergenhahn, 2011.) Since there is no proof of a personality, I believe that psychology should be about behavior and not about an inner force. I do not believe a person is consistent across time because if they were consistent across time, every person would always act the same no matter what situation they are in. Many times, after the death of a loved one, a person acts a little different and often times seems lose for a period of time. Due to the environmental change, a happy and lovable person may seem sad and standoffish during the death of a loved one. Not only did Skinner not believe in personality, he had his own opinion on personality. (Introduction.) He believed that if children are not prop erly reinforced or engaged in school, the children may drop out. (B. F. Skinner on Education.) Modifying a child’s learning behavior begins with a classroom environment that involves a rewarding atmosphere. This way, the child will be rewarded by coming to school and learning something.
